Collagen replacement has been around since the early 1980s. Although it was an effective product, it was required a skin test to identify any hypersensitivity. Newer forms of collagen are derived from a human source therefore do not require this pretesting. The results last between 3-4 months.

Hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Juvederm™ and Restylane®, have helped create an alternative to traditional cosmetic procedures. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is the key ingredient is a naturally occurring substance found in tissue and dermis of all living organisms. It has the unique ability to attract and bind water molecules which plump up the tissues into which it is injected. The effectiveness ranges between 6-12 months, depending upon the individual and the specific brand.
